Purely Yours Backpack and Carry All
The Purely Yours Breastpump is a family of milk pumping devices brought out by Ameda, now under the management control of Hollister, Inc. The ingenuity in devices belonging to this family is the patented "HygieniKit" technology that the manufacturers have built into its systems. This may be a boon to mothers who are pumping for newborns that are premature or ill at birth, and therefore at a greater vulnerability to infection.
Slightly difficult to spell, the "HygieniKit" technology focuses on the possibility of viruses being present in the pump and tubing. A silicone diaphragm acts as a barrier in both directions - the bacteria and virus, if at all present, cannot transmit between the pump / tubing on one side and the collection mechanism on the other. Any contamination issues related to rental pumps are thus handled safely.
Both the backpack and the carry-all versions are fully automatic. They have an inbuilt double-pumping kit - an invention that Ameda subsequently patented - which gives the mother the flexibility to alter suction settings to eight different levels. Controlled by powerful microprocessors, the kit provides four different cycle speeds with which milk can be drawn out. These two facilities together acknowledge the individuality of every mother, each of whom may have their own sense of convenience. Since both the settings are mutually exclusive, the mother can experiment with a number of combinations, and finally settle on one combination of suction and cycle level that suits her best. Even further, the mother also has the option to pump singly, or operate on both the breasts simultaneously to save on time. What more could a breastfeeding mother ask for?
Another very major plus is there are multiple sources with which the pump can be supplied power - AC adapter, AA batteries, or Car adapter. The last option, however, is not available with the Carry All model.
Both the entire model have been ergonomically designed, keeping in mind minute things that the mother may require. So, the mother will be overjoyed to discover bottle holders built into the pump - this prevents any spills accidentally taking place. A mom on the move was continously pictured, perhaps, while preparing the blueprints of these models. This is reflected in their light weight - the backpack and the carry-all models each weigh less than 7.5 pounds.
How are the Backpack and Carry-All models similar or different from each other? We saw above that the Car Adapter facility is not present in the Carry-All version. The HygieniKit is present in both of them, as is the Milk storage guide magnet. Both also come with a tote, that includes an insulated cooler bag with three cooling elements and six collection bottles of 4 oz. each. These totes are available separately as well. The Backpack version has a couple of additional advantages, however - it carries with it two cotton breast pads, and an manual pump adapter handle. The latter is to take care of just-in-case situations, when powersupply fails, and the mother "has" to express at that very moment. This makes the Backpack model slightly more expensive, by about sixty bucks. After all, the best things in life don't really come cheap, do they?
