Ask any breastfeeding mom, who also pursues a career, about the problems that she has to face while trying to find privacy in a public place to carry out her milk exercising activity, and she will reel out all her bemusing and not-so-bemusing experiences. Mothers were resigned to their fate of having to handle cumbersome breastpumps for carrying out lactation; while all work on her desk would come to a standstill. Imagine the state of affairs when this activity has to be carried out more than once in the day!
Not any longer. The Whisper Wear double breast pumping kit comes to the aid of such harrassed moms. A totally hands-free kit, once the mother switches on the pumping, it requires no further assistance from the mother, leaving her to concentrate on her official tasks at hand.
The double breast pumping kit comes with two pumps that include two pump motors and two breast cups. Each pump has one collection unit, which comprises of a stern and two valves. The kit comes with fifty collection bags, and the manufacturers have thoughtfully supplied labels for the bags, where you can write down the date and the time when the milk was expressed. When you buy the kit, you are also given a carry bag and a cooler pack, and finally, a dishwasher bag.
The pumping kit can be connected to an electric supply. In this case, a three volt D.C. ( 1 ampere) AC Adapter is required, which the retail outlet counter can sell to you. But when travelling, you may want to go in for the convenience of operating the kit via batteries. The Whisper Wear manufacturers recommend deploying AA alkaline (1.5 V ea) or NiMH (1.2V ea) batteries, and one pair is required for each pump. Care should be taken to use only one battery type in one pump, lest it should damage the circuitry with uneven powersupply. When the time comes to replace the batteries, both of them should be changed at one time. There is also an in-car adaptor.
The parts of the pump that come directly in contact with breast milk are the breast cups, the valves and the sterns. These should be sterilized by submerging in boiling water for a period of about twenty minutes. After rinsing, the parts should be air-dried for some time. No other part of the kit needs to be brought in contact with water or any other cleaning liquid.
The collection unit and the pump are assembled separately. The pumps should be placed above the breasts, with the valve opening facing down. The nipple of the breast should be centred in the nipple chamber. Ensure that the breast cup is comfortably molded to the breast. The collection unit should be attached to the pump through the stern. The bra may be adjusted to sit comfortably over the completely assembled kit.
The kit has two control features to adjust the expressing quality. The first, called the Vacuum Level Slider Switch, is used to control the suction that the pump makes at the breast tissues; and the second, called the Cycle Rate button, controls the number of suck-release-relax cycles that the pumps operate at, in one minute.
In one collection bag, upto four oz. of milk can be collected. These bags are to be used for one time only; so care must be taken to always carry a stack of such bags whenever and wherever you go. After one bag is full, and the expression is to be continued, the pump can be stopped, the filled bag removed, and another, empty bag may be attached.
The expressed milk may be stored in the cooler pack provided with the Kit. This cooler pack may be ideally frozen well in advance before use. Milk in the cooler pack inside the carry bag may be stored safely for up to ten hours. After returning home, the milk may be kept in the freezer section of the refrigerator, where it can safely stay for longer periods of time. The advantage of the date and time labels become apparent here, when the oldest expressed milk should be consumed first.
