Mom said to endanger baby by breastfeeding
MANCHESTER (AP) – A 35-year-old woman has been charged with endangering her infant by breast-feeding her within 24 hours of snorting cocaine.
Lisa Ireland pleaded innocent Tuesday to endangering the welfare of her 11-month-old daughter.
According to court records, Randy Dorr, the child’s father, took the baby to Elliot Hospital on Jan. 6 and told emergency room staff that Ireland had been using cocaine and breast-feeding.
Medical personnel told police a blood test showed the child had cocaine in her system. Police said Ireland told them she and Dorr snorted cocaine at a Manchester hotel on Jan. 3. They say she told them she waited until Jan. 4 to breast-feed the baby because she couldn’t use a breast pump before taking the cocaine.
